James T. Barnes, CFA, CIPM


Jim started his financial service career in 1998 at Merrill Lynch & Company as an Assistant Supervisor in the Business Financial Services Group.  In 2000 he became a Junior Trader at Paine Webber, where he was responsible for the administration of their short-term asset management processes.  He began work with G.X. Clarke & Company in 2001 as an Institutional Bond Salesman, responsible for the development of new corporate and institutional investment management business.  In 2006 he went to work for A.M. Best Company as a Financial Analyst, and came to National Penn Investors Trust Company at the beginning of 2008.

Jim graduated Cum Laude in 2006 from Notre Dame University, where he earned his M.B.A. in Finance and Investments.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Finance from Lehigh University.  Jim has earned both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM) designations.  His community activities include serving as Vice President on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem, P.A. and serving on the Board of the Olivet Boys and Girls Club of Reading, P.A.  Jim is a member and currently serves as the Treasurer of the CFA Society of Philadelphia and is an instructor for the Society as well.  Jim is also a member of the Leadership Berks Alumni Council.  Jim’s opinions have been quoted by Business Week, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, CNN Money, MarketWatch, Bloomberg, Dow Jones and other financial news services.  In addition, he authors the Money Manager column in the Reading Eagle Weekly.
