Disclosing Personal Information
It is often necessary to ask for certain personal information when a customer calls, visits a branch or logs into our Web site. Requiring the disclosure of personal information before beginning a transaction is a valuable security tool to verify and protect a customer’s identity. Unfortunately, personal information shared on the Internet or telephone may be used to commit fraud, so provide this information only to businesses you know and trust.
National Penn will NEVER independently call a customer or send an email or text asking a customer to disclose account numbers, ATM or debit card numbers, passwords, or other personal information. If at any time you receive an unsolicited telephone call or email from a person claiming to be a representative of National Penn asking for personal or identifying account information, do not respond. Instead, please call our Customer Service Center to verify that you are communicating with a National Penn representative.
National Penn may contact you for verification of account activity. If you receive a phone call from us we will provide you with the information we are seeking to verify. We will not ask you to provide your personal information.
Visa Falcon Fraud Protection Services
National Penn uses Visa Falcon Fraud Protection Service to better protect our customers. With the Falcon Fraud detection system you receive continual monitoring of your card activity to help identify and prevent fraudulent transactions on your account. Falcon is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
If Falcon Fraud Protection Services believes there are suspect transactions occurring on a customers account, Falcon will contact the cardholder directly. A Falcon representative will identify themselves as Visa Falcon Prevention Service calling to verify transactions done with a National Penn Visa/ATM card. They will ask the card holder questions to verify their identity. Those questions contain parts of the cardholder’s personal information such as address, date of birth and confirmation of the last 4 digits of the social security number. Falcon will always give a toll-free call back number when asked.
If Falcon does not reach the member directly and they are able to leave a message on an answering machine, they will identify themselves as Visa Falcon Fraud Prevention Service calling to verify transactions with a National Penn Visa/ATM card and leave the call back number on the answering machine. When returning the call, the member will reach and automated answering system and will be prompted to verify the charges in question. Falcon will ask you to confirm the last 4 digits of your social security number; they WILL NOT ask you to provide your full social security number.

For security, we utilize multi-factor authentication for users to access our online banking systems. When you set up your account, you will be asked to provide personal security questions and answers to help authenticate your user ID and password. In addition, our security system can recognize your user patterns (when and how you access the online banking site) and use this information to verify your identity. You should never give out your user name and password to anyone, and we will never ask for this information from you via email, phone or at a branch.
Automated Time Out
To provide additional protection, a time out feature is used on selected portions of our website. This feature will automatically log you off of your current online session after a period of inactivity. Re-establishing and authenticating your credentials for your online session helps to reduce unauthorized access to your accounts.
Use of Firewalls
To protect data stored on our systems and to prevent unauthorized access, we employ firewalls where appropriate. Firewalls are software and hardware products that are intended to define, control and limit the access to a website, network or computer system. We also use Intrusion Detection Systems to detect and identify potential intruders.

National Penn works with independent third-party security firms to perform security reviews of our online services and systems. In addition to these measures, this website is also registered with Verisign, an industry leader in website identification and encryption. Via your browser, Verisign allows you to confirm this website provider's identity before transmitting any personal information.
Most web browsers have the ability to communicate securely with a website by encrypting the information as it passes across the Internet. This method of communication is called Secure Socket Layer (SSL). National Penn requires the use of a browser which supports 128-bit SSL encryption to log in to the online banking website. If you see a website address that begins with "https" (as opposed to "http") and the "closed padlock" ( ) in the lower right hand corner of your browser, you are using an SSL connection to transfer your confidential information.
Secure Messaging and Email
Many of our online services have a secure messaging feature. In order to access secure messaging, you must log in with your user name and password. Messages sent within our online banking system are secure. You may also contact us by phone, postal mail or in person.
Note: Regular Internet email is not secure, so please do not send confidential information such as Social Security or account numbers to us via regular email.
